The Ile-de-France region is
by far France’s leading region
for the production of perfumes
and beauty products, and
is also the number one generator
of employment in the sector.
Major cosmetics companies
operating from the Val d’Oise include Clarins, L’Oréal,
Givaudan
(producer of flavours and
fragrances) and Sisley.

Perfumery and cosmetics
in the Val d’Oise
The perfumery and cosmetics industry
is currently experiencing something of a boom in the Val
d’Oise.
Sisley has decided to invest in the Val d’Oise, Clarins has
made seven different extensions to its premises in Pontoise within
20 years, Givaudan, the world’s leading producer of
flavours and fragrances, has moved its manufacturing and
development divisions, or 500 employees, to Argenteuil. For years
now, many other well-established cosmetics companies have decided
to base their laboratories and/or manufacturing and packaging units
in the Val d’Oise. Jeanne Gatineau has 100 employees
working in Bezons (laboratories and manufacturing units);
Laboratoires Payot have about a hundred in
Cergy-Pontoise, and Laboratoires Décleor (phytocosmetics)
have
|
about the same number working
in Argenteuil. Alès Groupe, with its brands Laboratoires
Phytosolba, Lierac and perfumer Caron, has around
400 employees working in Bezons and Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône.
Evaflor, a dynamic SME which is supporting Phycosource, (a start-up
based in Cergy-Pontoise specialised in the high-speed production of
microalgae for use in pharmacological and cosmetic testing), has
about fifty employees in Garges-les-Gonesse, while Matis has
80 employees in Osny.
L’Oréal is currently setting up a business logistics centre
with 90 employees in Roissy, where the Sara Lee Household and
Body Care France group has its French headquarters. Lastly, one of
Givaudan’s competitors, the Japanese company Takasago, now
the 5th leading company on the world flavours and fragrances
market, is expanding its activity with 60 employees in
Cergy-Pontoise.
